While the Notice of Intent to Make a Bond Claim is a voluntarily document and not required, sending it nonetheless a best practice and is recommended when a payment issue arises on a project.

Of course, in order to make a bond claim, there must be a bond claim present (as well as a payment issue, of course).

But if there is a payment issue and a payment bond is present, then sending this warning letter to all of the interested parties (including the surety, the general contractor, and the project owner) could be enough to prompt payment.
